A couple left more than $100 million to support organizations and projects in the Fox Cities and Green Bay areas.
It was one of the top local stories of 2018.
David and Rita Nelson lived in De Pere, and they died last year. The money was placed in a fund, through the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region.
Executive Director Curt Detjen says it’s by far the largest gift in their history. He calls the amount “stunning.”
Detjen says the fund will produce about $4.5 million for grants and projects every year, and it will be a “game changer” for the community.
David Nelson was a media executive, and Rita was a teacher.
