The top Republican in the Assembly is refusing to release an $850,000 contract with a law firm.
The decision by Speaker Robin Vos is drawing fire from open records advocates. Assembly Republicans hired the Chicago-based firm Bartlit Beck to help with a federal lawsuit over the state’s legislative district boundaries.
Vos spokeswoman Kit Beyer wouldn’t give copies of the contract to newspapers in Milwaukee and Madison. She argues it’s protected by attorney-client privilege.
