Calumet County started collecting a half-cent sales tax one year ago today.
Finance Director Dan De Bonis estimates it brought in $3.5 million to $3.6 million over the 12 months. He says they were estimating on the low side. He says the surplus went into the 2019 budget for projects.
De Bonis says by using the revenue to pay up front for capital projects they don’t have to pay interest. He says it also lowers the county’s debt. Most of the money is going toward road projects.
