An agency is getting some money to help train local retail workers.
The $65,000 grant comes from the state Department of Workforce Development.
Anthony Snyder of the Fox Valley Workforce Development Board says a lot of people were laid off after stores like Shopko and Sears closed their doors. He says those were low-paying, low-skill jobs with not a lot of room for advancement. He thinks this is an opportunity for people to transition into a career.
Snyder says the options include manufacturing, health care, and IT.
The money could also cover gas mileage and child care during the training.
