Thanks!

Wednesday, May, 29 2013

Just a quick update on our "Operation Broadcast Hope", last week's effort to raise money for tornado and fire victims.  During the 13 hours that Woodward Radio stations asked for donations at the many Community First locations in Northeast Wisconsin, we raised almost $5200 for the American Red Cross!  Thank you to all that donated!  It all goes to help make meals, replace some of what's destroyed, re-fill medications etc.

Thank you!

Tornadoes in Oklahoma

Tuesday, May, 21 2013

The vicious twister that hit Moore has left destruction and death unlike most that we witness. Some areas of town are almost unrecognizable.

My one close-up experience with a tornado was back in the 80's in Minneapolis.  A big twister was racing across the metro, and after chewing up our neighborhood, we caught a break as it lifted just a bit before touching back down and destroying parts of town. We could hear the monster roar that many equate with a freight train going over your head.  After it passed, we saw hundreds of trees down, numerous homes, businesses and apartments damaged, a city bus thrown into a building...but, we were alive.

Our prayers go out to those affected by this tragedy.

Vacation notes

Wednesday, May, 15 2013

A few thoughts from these past few days while on my vacation. And no, I won't show slides.

The beach and 80 degrees is a wonderful thing, especially when it's in the 40's back here. I did bring back some warm weather, though....

Paid 3.19 a gallon for gas where we were...saw 3.74 per gallon upon return.  Yuck!

There's a ton of construction going on in Milwaukee, too.  They enjoy orange barrels almost as much as we do.

Shucking oysters is not as easy as it appears!  Especially when the ones I was shucking were as big as your fist!  Good eating, though...with tabasco and a squeeze of lemon!

You can tan too much!  Saw a lady who would have given "Tan Mom" a run for her money.  Her skin was so dark and....leathery!
