Nursing shortage still in sight

Nearly 30 percent of all nurses in the state are at least 55 years old.

Judy Warmuth of the Wisconsin Hospital Association says there could be a shortage, in the coming years. She says if the current pace of new nurses continues, the state won't be able to keep up with the demand.

Warmuth says high school students should focus on science and math classes, if they're interested in a nursing career.

She says the current vacancy rate for registered nurses is 3.4 percent.
