Bitter cold could stick around

Last year ended with the sixth-coldest December on record in Appleton, and the temperatures are following that trend, at the start of 2014.

Meteorologist Scott Cultice of the National Weather Service says the arctic blast will stick with us for a while. He says we probably won't see a mid-winter thaw until late-January or early-February.

Cultice says the temperatures are bound to bounce back eventually.

The average high for early January is around 25 degrees.
