Appleton might open city parks to dogs

Appleton leaders will consider whether to let people bring dogs into city parks.

Right now, they're banned, but Ald. Kyle Lobner is proposing the change. He says people would have to keep their dogs on a leash, and under control. He says he hopes people will do it responsibly, and that the city will enforce the rules that are in place.

Lobner believes the change will open the parks to more users.

The city's parks and recreation committee approved the change on a 3-to-2 vote earlier this week. The city council will take it up next week.

Some members have raised concerns about the impact dogs could have on other park users.
