Prof: Vinehout decision not surprising

A potential Democratic candidate for governor won't get in the race and a political expert isn't surprised.

Senator Kathleen Vinehout of Alma announced her decision today. It leaves former Trek Bicycle executive Mary Burke as the only major Democratic challenger to Governor Walker.

St. Norbert College political science professor Charlie Jacobs says Vinehout didn't gain much support in the 2012 recall election against Walker.

He says the Democratic Party also likely encouraged Vinehout not to run, to avoid a primary.

A second Democrat quietly filed to run for governor this week. Election records show Marcia  Mercedes Perkins of Milwaukee registered on Monday.
