Alderman raises concerns over refugees

The head of one of the groups that's offering to help a group a refugees believes the Fox Cities is as well-prepared as any community in the country.

Bob Pedersen is the president of Goodwill Industries. He says there are a number of organizations that are very capable, and have been through similar situations before, with other populations.

About 75 refugees from the Congo, Iran, and Myanmaar are expected to arrive in Appleton sometime this year.

Ald. Jeff Jirschele is questioning whether the community is really ready, and he's calling for a review of the planning process. He says he wants to understand whether the community has the capacity and means to do the job.

Jirschele says he wants to make sure that they're not compounding the problem, and that they're still able to help people locally. He says it's not an indictment of the people involved, and what they're trying to do to help.
