Marquette can't hang on in OT

The Marquette Golden Eagles continue to search for a road win as they lost to the Butler Bulldogs in overtime 69-57 on Saturday at the Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Marquette led early after the half at 40-28, but let Butler go on a run which helped reclaim the lead at 46-45 with 4:05 to go on a Kellen Dunham jumper.  Later, with Butler leading 49-47 with 11 seconds left, Marquette guard Jake Thomas drew a foul and sunk two free-throws in the closing seconds to force overtime.  But Marquette would be denied the road win as they got outscored 20-8 by Butler in the extra period.  Davante Gardner led the way for Marquette with 17 points and 10 rebounds.  Dunham and Kameron Woods each had 18 points for Butler in the win, which was their first Big East victory in school history.  With the loss, Marquette remains without a win on the road since Nov. 28th when they defeated Cal State Fullerton at the Wooden Legacy tournament on Thanksgiving.

Marquette again goes on the road as they take on Georgetown on Monday.  Tip is set at 8pm, with pregame starting at 7:30pm on 95.3-WSCO.
