Xavier schools seeking voucher applicants

Appleton's Catholic schools are preparing for the second year of the state's school voucher program.

The Saint Francis Xavier system received 55 vouchers for students last year. System president Ray DuBois says they're actively recruiting families to apply for next school year. He says the application period opens tomorrow, and he feels better prepared than last year, when there wasn't much time to register.

The top 25 schools and school systems, with the most applicants, will get new voucher students. DuBois says there will be more competition this time.

The state is doubling the number of vouchers that will be available this year, to 1,000.
