IRS reminds filers about tax credit

People are starting to fill out their income taxes for last year, and the IRS is reminding them to see if they qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit.

Spokesman Christopher Miller says about 385,000 people in Wisconsin claimed it last year, and they received an average credit of about $2,100. He says about 20 percent of those eligible for it, don't claim it.

He says people who miss it generally made less money than the previous year, are grandparents who are raising their grandchildren, or didn't know they qualified.

The eligibility limits are listed on the IRS website.
