UW payroll audit shows improvement, problems

An audit of the UW System's payroll and benefits system showed some improvement, but the need for continued monitoring.

Sen. Rob Cowles called for the audit last year, after a year-end review found $33-million worth of overpayments for health insurance premiums, and pension contributions. The Legislative Audit Bureau found that the inappropriate payments dropped, to around $15-million, last year. Cowles says there are significant security weaknesses in the human resources system.

Cowles says the audit bureau will continue to monitor the issues.
