NAMI backs mental health bills

A spokeswoman for a local organization says the state's investment in helping people with a mental illness will lead to some great improvements.

Karen Schiller of NAMI Fox Valley is reacting to Governor Walker's signing of a series of mental health bills yesterday in Green Bay.

She says one of them provides grants to create Crisis Intervention Teams that will train police officers how to help people who are suffering from a mental health crisis. Schiller says NAMI already trained a number of officers in the Fox Cities.

Another bill sets up an incentive program to encourage doctors and psychiatrists to stay in rural, under-served areas.
