Bars prepare for rush of sturgeon spearers

The sturgeon spearing season is huge for bars around Lake Winnebago, and many of them are getting ready for big weekend crowds.

Jackie Woelfel owns the Harbor Bar and Grill in Stockbridge. She says they usually have large crowds, partially because the DNR registers the fish there. Woelfel says it's a big boost to her bottom line.

She says spearers are out on the ice cutting their holes today, and some of them are having a hard time with their chainsaws.

DNR experts are calling for a short season because the water is very clear. Woelfel hopes they're wrong, because a short season means less business.
