Greenville considering chicken rules

A decision on raising chickens in Greenville could come later this month, or in March.

The town board held a hearing on the issue last night. Town chair Randy Leiker says people would be able to raise up to four chickens, in a coop. They would have to keep them a certain distance from their property line, and their neighbors' homes. He says a lot of people came to talk about the idea, and most support it.

Leiker says the board delayed a vote, so members can reconsider requirements to have a building inspector approve the coops, and for the coops to match the house.

Appleton's city council shot down a similar proposal, to allow chickens, after several months of debate last year.
