MADD pushing for more ignition interlocks

A national group wants all convicted drunk drivers in Wisconsin, to have to use an ignition interlock device.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving gave the state two stars, out of five, in its annual report. Right now, the state requires ignition interlocks for repeat offenders, and first offenses, when the driver's blood alcohol-level is at least 0.15. MADD spokesman Frank Harris says research shows that taking away someone's license for several months doesn't stop them from driving.

Harris says 20 states force all convicted drunk drivers to use an interlock.

The group also wants to give police the power to get a search warrant, to draw a driver's blood, if they refuse to take field sobriety tests.
