Appleton ordering smaller recycling carts

More than 1,900 smaller-sized recycling carts will be coming to Appleton.

The city council voted 12-1 last night to buy 65-gallon carts from a Pleasant Prairie company.

Ald. Chris Croatt says it gives people an option, over the 96-gallon size. He pushed to include about $90,000 in this year's budget, to pay for the carts.

The city bought the larger carts for every home in the city last year, and leaders heard a number of complaints about them.

The city's public works department has a waiting list for the smaller carts, and there are around 300 names on it.
