Prof: Petri likely to prevail in GOP primary

A political science professor doubts a longtime Republican congressman from Fond du Lac will have much difficulty defeating one, or two primary challengers, in this year's election.

State Sen. Glenn Grothman of West Bend announced yesterday that he's challenging Congressman Tom Petri, in the sixth district. One of Governor Walker's top campaign staffers, John Hiller, is also considering a run.

UW-Green Bay political science department chair Michael Kraft says some see Petri as vulnerable.

Grothman is the more well-known of the two possible challengers. Kraft says he isn't much of a danger to Petri because of his radical stances on several issues.
