Lawmaker calls for equal pay

A lawmaker from Appleton hopes the state can work to close the gender gap in pay over the next year.

Today is national Equal Pay Day.

Democratic Rep. Penny Bernard Schaber says the state should pass a law, for the second time, to ensure that women are paid the same as men, for the same job.

The original law was passed in 2009, but it was repealed in 2012.

Bernard Schaber says women make an average of 79-cents for every dollar that a man makes.
