Mayor weighs in on Neenah proposal

Neenah's mayor says it's exciting to see an $8 million proposed development for the downtown, but officials also have to make sure it's a good fit.

The four-story project calls for retail space on the first floor, and apartments above it.

Mayor Dean Kaufert says workers at places like Plexus and Alta Resources might want to live downtown.

Some of the apartments would be for people with lower-incomes, because the developers are seeking tax credits. Kaufert says he's heard some questions about that today, and they'll need more details.

The site includes the Under the Dome bar, and it's owned by Kaufert and his wife. He says he will be open and transparent. He says he won't stand in the way of the development.

If the project is approved, construction wouldn't start until the fall of next year.
