APD: Stabbing a reminder for parents

A stabbing in Waukesha this week should serve as a reminder to parents, to pay attention to how their kids are using computers.

That's the feeling of Appleton Police Lt. Larry Potter.

Court records say two 12-year-old Waukesha girls got their inspiration to stab a classmate 19 times, from a horror story website.

Potter leads the department's police school liaison program. He says there are often warning signs, before these kinds of tragedies. He says parents can spot red flags early by talking with their kids, and watching their body language.

Potter says parents also have to be nosy, and follow what their kids are doing online.
