Same-sex couples filing marriage applications

Same-sex couples in Brown and Outagamie counties are submitting marriage license applications today, in the wake of a federal judge's ruling that struck down the state's ban on gay marriage.

The first couple to apply in Outagamie County was Miriam Douglas and Ligia Rivera. They've been together for 26 years, and Rivera says it's a dream come true.

Outagamie County is not universally waiving the five-day waiting period to get a marriage license, so today's applicants will have to wait until next Monday, to get married. At least one couple did get a waiver, and they were married today. Brown County's clerk is waiving that requirement, so couples can tie the knot right away.
