Thompson calls obesity a disease

A longtime Wisconsin politician is trying to fight obesity.

Former Governor Tommy Thompson is calling on Congress to recognize obesity as a disease. That would require Medicare to cover obesity treatments.

Thompson says the country would save money in the long run, by focusing on prevention. He says personal responsibility is important, but relying on that isn't enough.

Thompson was also the former U.S. Health and Human Services secretary. He spoke about the issue in Michigan yesterday.
