Appleton bans gender identity discrimination

Appleton employers can't discriminate against someone based on gender identity, under a rule passed last night, by the city council.

It also bans businesses from refusing someone service, because they are transgender. Appleton diversity coordinator Kathy Flores says that group isn't included in the nation's anti-discrimination laws, and they need protection.

Appleton joins Madison and Milwaukee as the only cities in the state that ban discrimination, based on gender identity.
