Appleton to start downtown parking study

A company will take a close look at parking in downtown Appleton.

The city council agreed to hire the Illinois-based Walker Parking Consultants to study the current and future demands.

Public works director Paula Vandehey says they're going to sit down with businesses and stakeholders in the coming weeks. She says they want to know if companies are planning to add more jobs in the next several years.

Vandehey says once they see the recommendations, the city will have to figure out how to pay for any potential projects. She says they hope to finish the study by November.

The city will pay the consultants $68,000.
