Appleton to explore 'wheel tax'

One of the proposals that will be on the table, during Appleton's debate over special assessments, is a $20 "wheel tax."

Ald. Joe Martin says he'll introduce the idea at tomorrow's city council meeting.

Drivers who keep their cars in Appleton would be charged an extra $20 for their annual vehicle registration.

Martin says it would replace the assessments that the city collects from property owners to re-do existing streets and sidewalks.
