Not guilty plea in toddler's death

A town of Menasha man accused of killing a three-year-old girl is set to stand trial in the case.

A not guilty plea was entered this morning, for 26-year-old Ryan Jorgenson, in the death of his fiance's daughter. Winnebago County prosecutors are charging Jorgenson with first-degree reckless homicide.

Court records say the girl suffered a head injury while Jorgenson was watching her, at his duplex, in late May. She died several days later at a Milwaukee hospital.

They say a next-door neighbor heard a loud bang or thump, and doctors reported her injuries were consistent with being slammed or thrown.

Jorgenson is accused of telling a fellow jail inmate that he hurt the girl, and did a "very bad thing." His trial is scheduled for January.
