Cowles reacts to tax credit revival

A state agency partially reinstated the historic preservation tax credit yesterday, and a lawmaker from Allouez is pleased by the cautious approach.

The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation put it on hold last month, after $35 million in credits were awarded, and the budget only included $4 million.

Republican Sen. Rob Cowles says WEDC officials are working with the Legislative Fiscal Bureau, to determine how much money those credits bring back to the state's coffers.

The credits are now available for projects at buildings that have a state or federal historic designation.
