Merkes disappointed by R.R. Donnelley vote

Menasha's leader hopes the city council reconsiders its decision not to buy the former R.R. Donnelley plant, along the Fox River.

Mayor Don Merkes says that way, the city would control what happens next at the spot along Anhaip Street.

Merkes says several people have shown interest in the property, and the city would be able to step up its recruitment efforts, if it owned the land. He says he was "kind of surprised" by the council's 4-3 vote on Monday night.

The R.R. Donnelley property is assessed at a little more than $600,000.
