Advocate reacts to health insurance rulings

The future of subsidies for people who bought health insurance, through the federal exchanges, is up in the air, after a pair of court rulings.

A local health insurance advocate says they are critically important.

Two federal appeals courts made contradictory rulings over whether the subsidies should be available to exchanges set up by the state and federal governments, or just the state ones.

Trish Sarvela of Partnership Community Health Center says the subsidies can cover about half of the cost of a policy, and people who received them shouldn't panic.

She says health insurance would be unaffordable for a lot of low-income people, if they lost their subsidies.
