Honor Flight departs from EAA AirVenture

A group of nearly 140 veterans is in Washington D.C. today, as part of what's become an annual tradition at the EAA AirVenture.

The Old Glory Honor Flight left around 7 a.m.

Drew MacDonald is the president of the organization. He says it's the fifth year that they've run an honor flight out of AirVenture, and the second year that it catered to Vietnam vets.

He says when the flight returns at the end of this afternoon's air show, 10,000 to 15,000 people will welcome the veterans home. MacDonald says they didn't get that kind of reception, when they returned from combat.

The honor flight will follow the today's Thunderbirds performance.
