Study complete on Rapide Croche boat lift

The planning for a boat transfer station at the Rapide Croche dam is progressing.

DNR environmental analyst James Doperalski says they recently completed an environmental analysis of the project. He says they would use a fork truck, or mobile hoist, to lift boats over the lock, to prevent sea lamprey and other invasive species from moving upstream.

Doperalski says when they move the boats, they would use a high-pressure water sprayer on them, and put them in a hot water bath for up to 10 minutes.

The DNR is seeking comments on the environmental study, and the agency will hold a public hearing, at Liberty Hall in Kimberly, on Wednesday, August 27, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
