Cheap license attracts new hunters
A lot of new hunters were in the woods this year, thanks in part to a
program that significantly reduced their license fee.
For the first time, the DNR offered a $5 gun hunting license to people who haven't hunted before, and those who haven't had a license for at least 10 years. A regular license costs $24.
Rep. Jim Steineke authored a bill that created the hunting incentive. The Vandenbroek Republican says nearly 29,000 people took advantage of the deal.
Steineke says more hunters means more revenue for local stores, restaurants, and sporting goods retailers.
