Menasha looks at SWAT deal with Winnebago Co.

At the same time Appleton and Grand Chute police may end their SWAT team partnership after one year, Menasha might start working with Winnebago County.

Police Chief Tim Styka says the city would provide a couple of officers for the team. He says it makes sense to work on a regional level.

The Menasha city council will have to agree to the deal.

Styka says the city currently has its own SWAT team, and it's recommended that members go through 16 hours of training per month. He says that's difficult from both a scheduling, and financial perspective. He says Winnebago County is in a good position to receive grant funding to help cover training costs.

Appleton's city council could decide tomorrow night whether to cancel its agreement with Grand Chute, because of philosophical differences.
