Watchdog reacts to GAB proposal

When the state changed the makeup of the Government Accountability Board several years ago, a now vocal opponent voted for the switch, twice.

That's according to Jay Heck of Common Cause.

Incoming Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald claims the six retired judges on the GAB are siding with Democrats too often. The Juneau Republican wants to put political appointees on the panel again.

Heck says he's sure a lot of Democrats aren't happy with all of the board's decisions either. He says that shows the independent board is doing its job.

Heck says Fitzgerald knew before the change that the old elections board was filled with partisans, and they needed to make changes.
