Outagamie Co. getting paid for work in Caluemt Co.
A 10-year deal between Outagamie County, Appleton, and Calumet County will make sure the Outagamie County
sheriff's department is reimbursed for calls in Calumet County.
Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson says the Outagamie County sheriff's department has been responding to Calumet County calls in Appleton for about 22 years, when the county-wide 911 system began. He says back then, it wasn't a big financial burden.
Appleton's southeast side has grown a lot since then, and Nelson says the cost now exceeds $85,000 a year. He says Calumet County officials recently agreed to repay Outagamie County for its services.
Nelson says it's not fair for him to ask the sheriff's department to live within tight fiscal restraints while also asking them to provide services to another county.
