Group reacts to financial aid funding gap

If college students don't apply for financial aid from the state right away, they could miss out on the money that they qualify for.

That's according to Matt Guidry of United Council, a group that represents UW-System students. He says a state panel found that 7,600 students were eligible for need-based grants last year, but they didn't get the money, because the state's funding ran out.

Guidry says lawmakers need to restore the link between tuition hikes, and increases in financial aid.

The UW-System, private colleges, and the state technical college system support an increase in financial aid, in the next state budget.
