Wis. lawmaker react to Mich. union law
Michigan is now a right to work state, after the state's lame duck Legislature quickly passed a law that bans unions from forcing people to join the organizations, and Wisconsin lawmakers are reacting.
Governor Walker, a Republican, says he supports right to work laws, but he doesn't think now is the time to pursue that in Wisconsin. Democratic Sen. Dave Hansen of Green Bay hopes the governor sticks to his word.
Hansen says he's disturbed by how quickly Michigan lawmakers passed the bill, without much debate, or any public hearings. He says it reminds him of the process used to pass Wisconsin's collective bargaining law, that stripped most union power from public workers.
