Lawrence University names new president

A high-ranking official from Priceton University will be Lawrence University's new president.

The school's board of trustees announced this morning that Mark Burstein will take over for current president Jill Beck on July first.

Beck has led Lawrence University for the past nine years and is the school's first female president.  The 51-year-old Burstein says he was drawn to Lawrence because of its rigorous academic environment, individualized learning, and a unique combination of strong liberal arts education with a nationally-recognized conservatory of music.

While at Princeton Burstein oversaw a $200 million budget, and 1,800 employees, he also helped lead a $1.8 billion fundraising effort.

Prior to his time at Princeton Burstein was a vice president at another Ivy League school, Columbia University.
