DNR reminds snowmobilers to be safe
Last week's snowstorm came at a good time for snowmobilers, and the DNR wants them to be safe, and make sure their local trails are open, before they head out.
Snowmobile program administrator Gary Eddy says even with 10 inches on the ground in the Fox Valley, some trails might not be ready. He says counties have a snowmobile hotline, to check the status of trails, and the state's tourism department lists trail conditions on its website.
Eddy says ice on most lakes is very thin right now, and snowmobilers should avoid it. He says the state's 55-mile-an-hour nighttime speed limit for snowmobiles is also in effect.
