Leaders react to Clemons' council departure

The longest tenured member of the Appleton city council is giving up his seat in the spring, and some of his colleagues were surprised by the decision.

Ald. Jim Clemons filed his official paperwork with the city clerk's office, announcing that he won't run for re-election.

Ald. Chris Croatt is the council president, and he says he learned a lot from Clemons over the years. He says he's passionate about the city, and not afraid to ask the tough questions.

Clemons has spent about two decades on the council, during two different stints. He currently represents the 13th district...on the city's northeast side.

Mayor Tim Hanna says Clemons added a lot to debates, because of his experience.

One candidate is already going to be on the ballot in the 13th district, Kyle Lobner.
