Caution urged on Lake Winnebago ice
The owner of a company that removes vehicles that fall through the ice on Lake Winnebago is warning people to beware of thin ice.
Don Herman is also a member of the Otter Street Fishing Club in Oshkosh. He says there's about four inches of ice on most of the lake, but right now, the bays are the only safe places to fish, and only if you walk out. Herman says the lake could be safe for small recreational vehicles soon, because of the cold weather this week.
Herman says there has to be a foot of ice, before people can safely drive a car or truck on the lake. He says it could take some time to get there.
Herman says it wouldn't take too much wind to break up the four inches of ice that's on most of the lake right now.
