Abuse victim uses Facebook to get help
The leader of a local domestic abuse shelter is applauding a woman's resourcefulness in getting help while she was being attacked by her husband.
Kenosha police say a woman was able to post a Facebook status update, after her husband beat her, and broke her phone so she couldn't call for help. Authorities say at least two of her friends saw the message and called police, on Tuesday evening.
Harbor House executive director Beth Schnorr says they often discourage victims from using social media, because an abuser can use it to stalk them, but in this case, it was very helpful.
Schnorr says people shouldn't take a plea for help on social media lightly.
Schnorr says she's never heard of someone using Facebook or Twitter to get help before.
