GOP leaders to take up mining issue right away
When lawmakers return to the Capitol, one of the first issues they'll take on is mining.
That's according to Assembly Majority Leader Scott Suder.
The Abbotsford Republican says they're going to start work next week, on a bill to streamline the permitting process. He says the proposal would build on what the Assembly approved last year, before it failed in the Senate. He says they'll listen and make appropriate changes.
The proposal is in response to a company's interest in opening an iron ore mine in Ashland and Iron counties.
Governor Walker was in Green Bay yesterday to urge lawmakers to approve a bill.
