OSHA fines Lunda for 2nd crane death
Federal investigators are coming down hard on a construction company for safety violations, after a second deadly crane accident along Highway 41.
Lunda Construction of Black River Falls is facing $105,000 in fines from OSHA on one willful, and five serious safety violations.
35-year-old Joseph Bidler of Green Bay was killed last July, when a crane collapsed on the Lake Butte des Morts bridge in Oshkosh.
Frank Winingham is the director of OSHA's Appleton office, and he says there were problems with operating standards, and planning meetings.
Lunda will also be placed in OSHA's Severe Violator Enforcement Program.
A subcontractor, Choice Construction of Menomonee Falls, faces a $13,000.
OSHA also fined Lunda $21,000 for three serious violations, after an accident last April, near De Pere. 58-year-old Raymond Ashenbrenner of Black River Falls was killed, when the arm of a crane collapsed.
