Traffic deaths up for 1st time in 5 years
2012 was a deadly year on Wisconsin
roads.
Major Sandra Huxtable of the bureau of transportation safety says 601 people were killed in crashes last year, and that's a six percent increase from 2011.
She says there were significant jumps in deaths involving motorcycles, and unbelted passengers, but drunk drivers were a much bigger problem. Huxtable says alcohol was a factor in 40 percent of fatal crashes.
2012 marked the first time in five years that traffic fatalities rose in Wisconsin.
