Many don't know about long-term care insurance

Most people don't know much, if anything, about long-term care insurance.

That's according to a nationwide survey by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

Dean Anderson is the long-term care project leader, and he says it can cover in-home providers, along with assisted living centers and nursing homes.

Anderson says people shouldn't have to rely on their family members to help them, when they get older.

The survey found that 24 percent think they're well-educated on insurance plans. Fifty-two percent say they've heard about them, but they don't know the specifics of what they cover. Twenty-five percent don't know anything about the coverage options.

Anderson says the price of long-term care insurance varies, depending on a person's age, and the benefit levels.
