Valley Transit converting hybrids
Valley Transit's experiment with hybrid buses
came to a disappointing end.
Spokeswoman Nikki Voeltzke says the hybrid components stopped working, so they're going to remove them, and make them regular, gas-powered buses. She says they lost their warranty when the manufacturer went out of business.
Voeltzke says overall, they were happy with the hybrids, and they hope to reinstall the technology, when they can.
It would have cost Valley Transit $12,000 per bus to upgrade the hybrid technology. The cost to remove the hybrid components, and the hybrid advertising bus wrap, will be about $2,000 per bus.
Voeltzke says they were each saving about $35 a day, in gas.
